Everyone wants to deal with a recognized expert or specialist in whatever discipline he/she is engaged in – from very small things to highly complicated work requiring special skills, -the range covers from selling cars to plumbing to electronics to law or finance – almost anything. Again gaining recognition as an expert, is the universal dream of every professional,as he/she individually wants to figure in the top ten list in their respective specialist areas.

In this see-saw battle, even real performers (who are experts) sometimes have to hone their working skills to get identified/recognized as special, and that too in a highly competitive environment, by those who want such services. Here are some effective and down-to earth steps to make a mark as an expert in whatever discipline or area one works, using well-established techniques involving consulting and/or coaching others.

(1) Enrolling as a visibly active member of a well-respected association in the specialist field, can create a tremendous impact on the self and the community, both as consultant and coach, and if properly used – the positive grapevine from peers and like-minded members can lead to immense possibilities to enhance one’s image in the respective field as an expert.

(2) Cultivating in addition to establishing contacts with persons who matter, – could be friendly, informal or even mutually beneficial, and is yet another proven route to building reputation in the respective spheres as a wanted professional expert.

(3) Developing one’s abilities as a teacher cum trainer is sure to confirm one’s image as an expert if  really competent, and invariably establishes a name among the connected  people who could become the most vocal messengers for other clients – in effect spreading and confirming the expert image among all who matter, – again leading to a committed following.

(4) Take full advantage of the all-pervasive  medium of Internet to publish crisp articles, ebooks, and reports to the discerning information seeker – in effect establishing an identity-name as an expert.

(5) Owning and operating a website is a potentially powerful  route to gain the much-wanted recognition, which could lead to a cascading effect in terms of establishing one’s reputation globally. With such a vast availability of web-designer workforce it would be much easier to set up a website at optimal cost.

(6) Using the all-powerful Internet medium to regularly feed information seekers with mind-capturing presentations, publishing  newsletters and the like, which would prompt them to seek for expertise, thus developing a following.

(7) Starting with local audiences one should develop his /her individual public speaking skills, by proper training and preparation, in effect spreading the message faster and wider, as each gathering could involve a number of  potential users who could remember what one said in a seminar, rather than refer to a testimonial, when it comes to identifying talent or expertise. What happens in reality is the creation of a dedicated following from clients who seem to see the individual talent or skill as an expert.

(8) Timing properly styled press releases can create and sustain the image of  expertise in the minds of the discerning public.

A judicious combination of some of the above-described steps can produce an astoundingly positive result that could make all the difference to an expert who projects his skills well enough, in comparison to one who doesn’t. The need to gain recognition is intrinsically a welcome thing but if done with a proper balance could produce the much-desired value to one’s image as an expert.
