Spam and Catch-all Website Email Address!
I was getting a lot of spam coming from one of my web sites, like hundreds per day, and so much that I actually stopped using the account for my web site email. This has been going on for several years actually. Then today when I looked at unsubscribing from one of the spam emails that I finally figured out how to stop the spam.
You see I was getting spam coming from user@website.com where website was my actual domain name’s web site. I thought for a moment and said how are they using this email address? Then it hit me!
I was using a catch-all on my domain’s email account. I turned off the catch-all email, setting it to none, and since switching off the catch-all email setting, I have not received a single spam message from that account. I never knew this before and hopefully this will help others who have the same problem.
