Auslogics BoostSpeed 4.2 Review

Auslogics Boost Speed Trial

First let me say that I was asked to review this Auslogics BoostSpeed product. I first looked at their website and said to myself “Oh, another speed boosting program. I already have a couple of other speed boosting programs but I will give it an honest review”!

I happened to be working on my main computer which has been real slow the last couple of days, even after rebooting. It would take several minutes for Visual Studio 2008 to load up. This is a Windows XP Pro computer with dual processors. So I installed the Auslogics BoostSpeed application. It first asked if I wanted it to load automatically at boot up. I said OK and saw an icon in my task tray.

I entered my registration information and left the application running without do any optimization. I noticed already that my system seemed to be more responsive. I had to load up Visual Studio 2008 and wow, it loaded much faster than before. I was liking this application already and I hadn’t done any optimization yet!

Auslogics BoostSpeed starts up on an introduction page and has a total of six pages called tasks. It also contains a separate application called “One Button Checkup” which is also on the introduction page. The six pages are:

Introduction: The introduction page contains quick links to perform the functions that you will perform periodically. This page contains:

(1) A “One Button Checkup” link which checks and cleans your registry, “Disk Cleanup” to remove unwanted junk files and folders, “Disk Defragmentation” that speeds up your hard disk by defragmenting the drive, and “System Protection” to see if the computer is protected from internet related attacks.

(2) A “Disk Cleaner” link which displays more information about your hard drives than the “Disk Cleanup” function on the “One Button Checkup” page.

(3) Also a “Disk Defrag” link which also displays more information about the hard drives.

Computer Clean Up: This page contains four functions:

(1) “Auslogics Disk Cleaner” to clean up the disk drives and gets rid of junk files. Same as on the introduction page.

(2) “Auslogics Registry Cleaner” to clean up the windows registry and fixes registry errors. Shows more information and gives more options than the one on the “One Button Checkup” program.

(3) “Auslogics Uninstall Manager” to add or remove programs and windows updates with ratings. It starts up much faster than the windows uninstall program.

(4) “Auslogics Startup Manager” to control which programs are allowed to start automatically when windows boots up. This only displays startup programs for the current user. I feel that it should also display startup programs for the local machine.

Optimization: This page also contains four functions to improve your computer performance:

(1) “Auslogics Disk Defrag” to boost performance by defragmenting disk drives. Same as on the introduction page.

(2) “Auslogics Registry Defrag” which compacts the registry to speed up the system.

(3) “Auslogics Internet Optimizer” to speed up your web browsers and internet downloads.

(4) “Auslogics Memory Optimizer” to free up and defrag computer memory.

Privacy and Security: Four functions are on this page to ensure your privacy.

(1) “Auslogics Track Eraser” to remove tracks from the computer to protect your privacy.

(2) Auslogics PC Security” to prevent internet attacks on the computer.

(3) “Auslogics File Shredder” which removes files and folders so they cannot be restored.

(4) “Auslogics Disk Wiper” that makes sure any files that you have removed cannot be undeleted.

Information and Control: Three functions on this page which taps into undocumented windows settings and to show detailed information about your computer.

(1) “Auslogics Tweak Manger” which has many undocumented windows tweaks used to tune up your system. This has visual tweaks, windows tweaks, and software tweaks.

(2) “Auslogics Service Manger” that shows windows system settings and gives tweaking advice.

(3) “Auslogics System Information” that displays detailed information about your computer, devices, and the operating system.

Windows Tools: This page displays features that are usually hidden or hard to find window tools.

(1) “Microsoft DirectX Diagnostics” to troubleshoot and change DirectX settings on your computer.

(2) “Windows Performance Monitor” to monitor your computer system performance.

(3) “Windows Service Manger” to control which services should be running on your computer.

(4) “Computer Management” to change scheduled tasks, see system events, and manage disks and devices.

Auslogics BoostSpeed also contains a “Rescue Center” where it shows the changes that Auslogics BoostSpeed has made to your computer showing the date, time and description of the change. This allows you to restore any changes made back to its prior setting.

I also installed Auslogics BoostSpeed on my Vista Ultimate 64 bit laptop and it worked fine on the 64 bit environment. I usually tweak my systems the best that I can do and Auslogics BoostSpeed showed me many more tweaks that I didn’t know about. I had run another registry cleaner prior to installing Auslogics BoostSpeed and Auslogics BoostSpeed registry cleaner found over 800 more problems. Since installing Auslogics BoostSpeed on my two computers I can tell just by using the computer that my system is much more responsive. I didn’t run any test before or after installing Auslogics BoostSpeed but I can tell the difference.
